TS 23W EXPECTED TO PASS WITHIN THE NEXT 6 HOURS
Guam remains in Condition of Readiness 4
Earlier this morning, Tropical Depression 23W was upgraded by the National Weather Service (NWS) to a Tropical Storm. As of 8:00 a.m. (ChST), Tropical Storm (TS) 23W was located at 90 miles East of Guam moving West-Northwest at 17 MPH. TS 23W is expected to make its closest point of approach to the island within the next six (6) hours bringing maximum sustained winds of 40-45 MPH for Guam.
As of now, Guam remains in Condition of Readiness 4 (COR 4). All schools and Government of Guam departments and agencies will be under normal operations. Guam Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense in conjunction with the NWS will continue to closely monitor this system for any sudden changes.
Additionally, all residents are reminded of the following:
• Motorist should exercise extreme caution while driving, as heavy rain and ponding can create unsafe driving conditions.
• Avoid beaches and waters as high surf and strong currents can be life threatening.
• Prepare your homes, secure canopies and any outdoor items that may become airborne as the winds increase.
• Stock your emergency supply kits and continue to monitor local media for updated information.
• Residents are advised to call 475-9600 for updated information relative to this storm and should refrain from calling 9-1-1 for any non-emergency calls.
